Welcome back Primary 7! This marks the beginning of an exciting year as you all you embark on your final year at primary school. I hope you all enjoyed your time at home during lockdown and are looking forward to a year filled with exciting learning experiences. Our first term is very busy and filled with engaging contexts for learning. We will be exploring Modern Studies with a particular focus on civil rights movements. Following on from this we will be learning all about World War 2 and our learning will cross over many curricular areas. In Numeracy, we will be learning all about orders of operations, gathering data and calculating speed, distance and time. We will be exploring how these concepts are used in everyday contexts. In addition to this, we will continue to develop our numeracy skills using daily Number Talks. We will be exploring ‘Talk for Writing’ during Literacy time as well as reading our class novels ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ and ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.’
I am looking forward to an exciting first term with you all.

Outdoor Learning and STEM – Teacher NCC Cover A note from Mrs Hendry… This term, I am covering non-class contact time and through a themed approach, I am providing children with opportunities to learn across many areas of the curriculum. Lessons have a particular focus on outdoor learning and STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), requiring students to draw on and develop their imagination, problem solving and creativity skills, as well as building on their resilience, determination and ability to work with others in a team. So far, the children have had great fun learning about forests through woodland visits and have also enjoyed learning about shelters by building dens and putting up tents. Our Gingerbread Man engineering challenge provided a context for investigating buoyancy and developed their problem solving skills. Next we will be learning about the science behind fires, how to build a fire and have the chance to listen to and create our own campfire stories. We might even get to enjoy a wee toasted marshmallow if we are lucky ; ) Keep an eye on Twitter for what we’ve been up to.
