Welcome to Room 7 Curriculum News Class Gallery Pupil Groups
Welcome back Primary 6, it is lovely to have us all back together for another year!
We have many exciting learning opportunities ahead this term to help us adjust to being back into our school routine.
Firstly, our classroom will be brought into the outdoors as much as possible, with lots of outdoor learning come rain or shine! From den building, to natural art, to scavenger hunts- the possibilities are endless!
Our focus in Numeracy will be exploring fractions, decimals and percentages as well as data handling. We will be continually reinforcing our number skills with daily Number Talks too.
In Talk for Writing, we will be examining two types of stories- wishing stories and defeating the villain stories, with lots of fun literacy activities to enhance our writing.
We are beginning with a short ‘Modern Politics’ topic, where we will discuss important current issues such as Racism and Discrimination. This will the lead us into our next topic, which as a class, we have chosen is Japan.
I hope you are all happy to be back together and excited for our term ahead J

Outdoor Learning and STEM – Teacher NCC Cover
A note from Mrs Hendry…
This term, I am covering non-class contact time and through a themed approach, I am providing children with opportunities to learn across many areas of the curriculum. Lessons have a particular focus on outdoor learning and STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), requiring students to draw on and develop their imagination, problem solving and creativity skills, as well as building on their resilience, determination and ability to work with others in a team.  So far, the children have had great fun learning about forests through woodland visits and have also enjoyed learning about shelters by building dens and putting up tents.  Our Gingerbread Man engineering challenge provided a context for investigating buoyancy and developed their problem solving skills. Next we will be learning about the science behind fires, how to build a fire and have the chance to listen to and create our own campfire stories.  We might even get to enjoy a wee toasted marshmallow if we are lucky ; )  Keep an eye on Twitter for what we’ve been up to.

At South Park we aspire to REACH excellence in all that we do……..
