Welcome back everyone! It is lovely to all be together again. I hope you are all well and adapting to all the changes out there. Everyone has settled in well and are being very flexible and co-operative with all of the new procedures which are in place. We have a very busy first term together, with our first topic the Titanic. We have made some wonderful wall displays and designed some fabulous cabins. You will see them in our introduction video, which will be out soon. We will soon be starting our first novel study, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We are continuing to do grammar, and writing within our Talk for Writing Activities. We have just finished our Warning Stories and will next complete a Titanic themed Portal Story. In Numeracy, we are revising Fractions as well as continuing to develop our number skills with Number Talks. Fridays, Mrs. Hendry will continue to work with the class. She is covering Health and Well Being, Numeracy and Outdoor Learning. Hopefully you have seen some of the photos on Twitter. The children are really enjoying all of their time learning outdoors. I am so glad we are back at school together, it is lovely to be with you again and I know we are going to have an amazing year. Mrs. MacRitchie
Outdoor Learning and STEM – Teacher NCC Cover A note from Mrs Hendry… This term, I am covering non-class contact time and through a themed approach, I am providing children with opportunities to learn across many areas of the curriculum. Lessons have a particular focus on outdoor learning and STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), requiring students to draw on and develop their imagination, problem solving and creativity skills, as well as building on their resilience, determination and ability to work with others in a team. So far, the children have had great fun learning about forests through woodland visits and have also enjoyed learning about shelters by building dens and putting up tents. Our Gingerbread Man engineering challenge provided a context for investigating buoyancy and developed their problem solving skills. Next we will be learning about the science behind fires, how to build a fire and have the chance to listen to and create our own campfire stories. We might even get to enjoy a wee toasted marshmallow if we are lucky ; ) Keep an eye on Twitter for what we’ve been up to.
