In Primary 2 we have created our Class Charter. We have learned about Article 28: we have the right to learn, Article 19: we have the right to be safe and happy, Article 24: we have the right to a clean environment and Article 31: we have the right to play. In class we do a lot of learning through play. We are learning about numbers. We play online maths games and we have lots of activities to help us sequence numbers such as, sorting ping pong balls into egg cups. In Literacy we have been learning out Talk for Writing story: Stuck In The Mud. We can retell this story from memory using actions. We’ve been choosing names for the animals and we are using our story maps to help us create our own new stories. In French we are learning numbers to 20 and have been playing the French game La Marelle (Hopscotch) to help us remember. Our class topic is Pirates. We are looking forward to learning about life as a pirate. We hope you will check in again soon to see photographs of all our learning. Written by Primary 2. 11.09.20
Outdoor Learning and STEM – Teacher NCC Cover A note from Mrs Hendry… This term, I am covering non-class contact time and through a themed approach, I am providing children with opportunities to learn across many areas of the curriculum. Lessons have a particular focus on outdoor learning and STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), requiring students to draw on and develop their imagination, problem solving and creativity skills, as well as building on their resilience, determination and ability to work with others in a team. So far, the children have had great fun learning about forests through woodland visits and have also enjoyed learning about shelters by building dens and putting up tents. Our Gingerbread Man engineering challenge provided a context for investigating buoyancy and developed their problem solving skills. Next we will be learning about the science behind fires, how to build a fire and have the chance to listen to and create our own campfire stories. We might even get to enjoy a wee toasted marshmallow if we are lucky ; ) Keep an eye on Twitter for what we’ve been up to.
