Welcome to Primary 1! The boys and girls have settled really well into Primary 1 and are just delighted to be at school, especially after such a long time at home. They have adjusted really well to all our new routines and are learning to be very responsible, respectful pupils.
We have been learning about South Park’s Values (RESPECT) and our school rules of Respectful, Ready to Learn and Safe. Through our actions in school, we are trying very hard to follow these rules and live out our values.
In Literacy we have been learning about rhyming words and the boys and girls are excellent at this now. We have completed several books studies already, including ‘The Selfish Crocodile’ and ‘Shark in the Park’. We are now starting to learn our phonics sounds and this will be a huge focus for a long time. Ask them what sounds they know! We will then start to blend these sounds together to make words. They can write a few already!
In Numeracy, we have been working very hard on learning our numbers and how to form them correctly. We will be counting, sorting, working on missing numbers, before, after and in-between and then we will move onto adding numbers together.
In Health and Wellbeing, we are focusing on the children’s happiness and getting settled into school. We have a good understanding about hygiene and wash our hands regularly and use our ‘Sniffle Station’ if we have a sneeze. We have been exercising regularly outside which has been great fun. We are learning about how to be a good friend in our class. We have read lots of stories all about friendship, sharing and respect. Our favourite was ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers.
It has been a great start to Primary 1 after a wobbly few months. You know where we are, should there be any issues and we are here to support and help. Mrs Lees and Mrs Donaldson
